Marquette Welcomes New StudentsMarquette and OIE are pleased to welcome 40 new students from 18 countries for Spring semester 2022. COVID-19 continues to create challenges for student mobility, including delayed and cancelled visa appointments, additional flight requirements, and US government entry protocols. They arrived during the coldest weeks of the year, but we are pleased to welcome them, see them succeed, and recognize the contributions that they and other international students bring to Marquette, Milwaukee and the US. |

Study Abroad Scholarship Highlights:Pelumi Oguntade, Wings ScholarshipSponsored by the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, the Wings Scholarship provides opportunities for low-income students to engage in a credit-bearing study abroad experience. Three students will receive an airfare stipend of up to $1,250 each to participate in these highly impactful study abroad programs. The Wings Scholarship will only be available for students participating on Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Academic Year 2022-23 study abroad programs. Short excerpt from Pelumi’s experience -How did this scholarship affect your study abroad experience overall? The Wings Scholarship helped my study abroad experience go smoothly. Getting to the destination is quite vital and I am grateful that the Wings fund helped spread my wings to Korea. I didn’t have to worry about the hassle of booking flights or paying for it. I was informed ahead of time for things that would involve out of pocket costs such as additional checked bag. It allowed me to focus my energy on other details of my trip such as booking quarantine stay Check out Pelumi’s full experience at Sogang University with the Wings Scholarship on our Study Abroad Scholarships website. Max Mantych,
Recipients of the Eufemia Sanchez de la Calle Scholarship will earn $1,400 toward their semester abroad. All students studying in Spain for a full semester or academic year are encouraged to apply! Preference is given to students who are studying language or taking their courses in Spanish while abroad. The financial need of the student is also considered. Matteo Ricci Minor in Global StudiesIf you are looking to integrate study abroad into your academic studies at Marquette, consider pursuing the Matteo Ricci Minor in Global Studies. This minor encourages Marquette students to gain academic and experiential knowledge of countries and cultures beyond the United States.Inspired by Matteo Ricci, a Jesuit priest who lived from 1552 to 1610 and was one of the first Europeans to travel to China. Ricci encultured himself into Chinese society by learning Chinese; writing the first Chinese-Portuguese dictionary; adapting the dress of a Chinese scholar and he was invited to join the Court of the Wanli Emperor. The minor is for students who want to join in this authentic enculturation journey by demonstrating to future employers the range of intercultural competence skills to succeed in today’s world. For an overview of the requirements for the Matteo Ricci minor, visit the College of Arts & Science interdisciplinary majors and minors webpage. |
