Tongji University, formerly Tongji German Medical School, was established in 1907. It was given its present name and became a state university in 1927. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in China. The university has developed rapidly in all respects over the fifty years since the founding of China, especially since the country's opening-up policy. The university now registers over 50,000 students at all levels from certificate and diploma courses to Bachelor’s Degrees, Masters, PhD programs and post-doctoral attachments. There are over 4200 academic staff for teaching and/or research, among whom there are 6 Members of Chinese Academy of Science, 7 Members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, over 710 professors and 1500 associate professors. The university offers diverse courses in its 82 Bachelor’s Degrees, 218 Masters, 94 PhD programs and 16 post-doctoral mobile stations. As one of the state leading centers for scientific research, the university has 22 state key laboratories and engineering research centers.
This program is composed of three modules mainly targeting at students who are interested in learning Chinese economy, business environment and cultural aspects as well.
Module I -Intercultural Communication (optional): Shanghai-Beijing-Xi’an Mobile Class
Module II - Academic Lectures & Company Visits (required): Assorted cultural/social activities with Chinese buddies will be organized in this module as well such as one-day visit to water-town city, Shanghai City tour, visit to Shanghai museum, Shanghai Urban Planning Museum, Yuyuan Garden, Xintiandi and etc
Module III - Company Consultation Project (optional and limited with seats): Issue Based Problem Solving
SEM-Tongji coordinators will assist in booking the on-campus rooms with the International Students Service Center. Please note that on-campus housing is increasing in demand and follows the “Early apply, early get” rule. The rent is around RMB 80 per day. Shanghai is the largest city by population in the People's Republic of China. The city is located in eastern China, at the middle portion of the Chinese coast, and sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Due to its rapid growth over the last two decades it has become a global city, exerting influence over finance, commerce, fashion, technology and culture. Shanghai is renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yuyuan Garden, as well as the extensive and growing Pudong skyline. Shanghai has an extensive public transport system including metros, buses, and taxis. Payment of all these public transportation tools can be made by using the Shanghai Public Transportation Card. The Shanghai Museum of art and history has one of the best collections of Chinese historical artifacts in the world, including important archaeological finds since 1949. The Shanghai Art Museum is a major art museum holding both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
